About Me

I write about science and how it affects people’s lives — in health and disease, in the environment, and in the lab. My work has appeared in STAT, Science, The New York Times, WBUR, Undark Magazine, the Norwalk Hour, and other publications.

Previously, I was a staff science writer at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and a AAAS Mass Media Fellow at KQED. I hold a Ph.D. in materials science from Northwestern University, where I developed novel ways to study hard/soft interfaces in contexts ranging from sea urchins to brain cancer.

I'm currently based in Vancouver, BC.
